Camila Gimenez's 'Queen Daenerys'

The poems on this anthology all have one thing in common: they are all about figures of power. In these persona poems, the poets put themselves in the shoes of powerful fictional figures and speak as them. The characters come from a wide range of literary texts--from greek mythology to a novel about vikings to Star Wars and Game of Thrones--but all have in common a powerful voice. All of these figures influence others and cause a great impact on the lives of others.

One poem, in particular, is a good representative of our theme, it is called “Queen Daenerys” by Dustin Toyotoshi and it's a persona poem about Daenerys Targaryen, a mythical figure from the tv series Game of Thrones. The poem is about how she is rightful queen of Westeros (the kingdom in the story) and her voyage to get it back. In her poem “Poseidon is My Name” talks about just how powerful he is, she expresses this by explain what he can do and exactly how much control he has. This quote in my opinion best represents the poem “I am the one master of the immense oceans I am the god other gods fear, I am Poseidon.” this quote explains how the other gods and people think about him; as a ruthless figure who has absolute control over everything that happens in his domain. Another good quote from this poem is “The wonderful creatures of the oceans are my ears They hear rumors and rush back to me Like electricity in dry land” this quote has a metaphor and a simile. When poseidon says “the wonderful creatures of the ocean are my ears” he means that all sea animals report back to him and tell him what's happening in different parts of the ocean. when he says “they hear rumors and rush back to me like electricity on dry land” in this simile he compares how fast the sea creatures come back to him with electricity, so he's saying that they're as fast as
