Chapter 14 discusses personality psychopathology, diagnosing personality psychopathology, and the personality disorder types. I specifically chose the narcissistic type of personality disorder, which describes the clinical characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder as “an exaggerated sense of self-importance, an exploitative attitude, and a lack of empathy” (Sue 391). A person with this specific type of personality disorder “requires constant attention and admiration, and have difficulty accepting personal criticism” (Sue 391). With that being said, it shouldn’t be a surprise to find that any type of conversation you have with someone that is diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder would focus solely on their own interests…

According to the Jung Typology Test, I have the personality type "INTJ". This indicates that I am mostly an introverted, thinking, and judging personality. While I consider these characteristics to be natural tendencies that I have, it is important for me to remember to avoid using labels as excuses for who I am in the flesh. I have a "moderate preference of introversion over extraversion" (humanmetrics.com) according to the test. I am shy and reserved around most people, and I often find a lot of group interaction stressful.…
Warner draws upon her own life experiences and effectively connects them to Quiet. Warner refers to Cain’s notion, the “Extrovert [cis] Ideal — the omnipresent belief that the ideal self is gregarious, alpha and comfortable in the spotlight” as being unhealthily prevalent in society (Warner 1). “Unchecked extroversion [cis] — a personality trait Cain ties to ebullience, excitability, dominance, risk-taking, thick skin, boldness and a tendency toward quick thinking and thoughtless action,” writes Warner “has actually, she [Cain] argues, come to pose a real menace of late” (2). Warner implies that Cain believes that society’s focus upon extroversion gave rise to “the bank meltdown of 2008 as well as disasters like Enron” (2). Warner writes that Cain advocates for a healthy balance of extraversion and introversion.…
People often associate a person’s shyness with their intelligence level. The book To Kill a Mockingbird has an excellent example of a man who is shy, but is not unintelligent. There’s also examples in modern day to prove that quiet people have clever minds. People who identify themselves as being introverts, soft spoken and like to be in solitude, are often some of the world's most powerful people.…
“I noticed that you have been quiet this whole time but do you have anything to say?” is a common question introverted people will come across many times in their life. In the book Quiet, Susan Cain breaks down and explains the intelligence, power, and leadership qualities that are hidden behind introverts. Cain also claims how many people in our modern Western society misunderstands and overestimates an introverted person and is more likely to value a person who is an extrovert because they are usually outgoing and outspeaking, which can be considered as an essential leadership traits. Cain being a graduate from Princeton University and earning a degree from from Harvard Law School, she effectively convinces her audience that the way our Western culture was built limits the introverts who can make a positive impact and contribution to our societies and how that can be changed by simply understanding introverts through the use of credible studies, cogent stories, and emotional appealing personal experiences.…
The female’s character displays this as well, showing a quiet shy side of her when embarrassed about not living up to the male’s standards of a female’s living quarters, later also displaying her character in regular relaxed conversation with the male, as well as a side of being awkward and passive to the male’s proposal at a kiss. Overall this passage does create a richness and diversity within characters displaying this chosen lens, and it does a very effective job at doing…
However, in the past, people believed in the Culture of Character - public, first impressions were not as important as how one acted on a day-to-day basis in their private life. A hundred years later, despite studies showing otherwise, people are more likely to associate extroversion with intelligence. This is because extroverts tend to be better leaders (drawn from the assumption that talking more means that you are a better leader). However, extroverts aren’t as good listeners as introverts are, which can be deleterious for groupwork. Introverts possess unique concentration abilities, as compared to extroverts, thus Carr argues that introversion is advantageous to mankind.…
m I Most of the time I am a sleep deprived, over-caffeinated, occasionally temperamental, introverted extrovert. Allow me to explain. As I sit here typing away, pondering the little things about myself, I am fighting the urge to nap. The reason why I am so incredibly exhausted and insufficiently caught up on sleep is because I like to paint. I am an advanced procrastinator or in other words an AP student with a part-time job and so you see my schedule is busy enough as it is without added hobbies.…

Alex Johnson, a queer nature author, used to think that nature writing only included the pristine, untouched wilderness “minus the parking lot” or “the human footprint.” He writes, “Where is the line between what is Nature and what is Human? Can I really say the parking lot is separate from the forest?” (Johnson, 1). Perceived boundaries between civilization and nature don’t keep the litter in the parking lot from blowing onto the hiking trails, bees from your garden from constructing beehives in your windowsill, and raccoons from knocking over your garbage cans.…
