Cada Conference Reflection

Improved Essays
The CADA Conference was very influential on me and my beliefs on how to create a better community on campus. I noticed many different things on my trip to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. I would suggest this trip to future ASB members because of how many ASB groups relate to our own. These students at this event relate to us, because of their leadership skills, school spirit, and creative ideas. The main things I learned from the experience is how to generate school spirit, create engaging events, and how to be the best you can be.
School spirit is the session where I retained the most information. This school enthusiasm is vital to a great high school experience. School is much more entertaining if you have something to look forward to, not just

This speech was very inspiring, it was filled with laughs, and many serious points that made you think. Scott Backovich, the motivational speaker, wanted all students to take more than just leadership skills away, he wanted everyone to take lessons on life. He made everyone ponder on if they’re the positive catalyst. Are they the person who makes a difference? Do you stand up for people who need it? Are you always doing the right thing? It is important to recognize that around us there are many people around us that are going to hardships that are hidden from the public eye. An example of this was noted in my teambuilding exercise on my treasured object. A high schooler from Calexico, who looked like an average high schooler, took off his shoe and stated “This is my treasured object.” His parents couldn’t afford running shoes for this track and field runner, so his coach made the effort to go out and buy him this pair of shoes. This story made me think, it was life changing, a kid who looked like a normal high school student was struggling to get clothes on his back. This made me recognize that I need to think of the negatives going on in other people’s lives. This speech was very touching because it connected with each of the students in many different

The 117th Founder’s Day Convocation can best be described as motivational. I was inspired by the speaker’s message which articulated that we should not defer our dreams. She stressed the importance of not giving up even when things get tough.…

The most recent Presidential election has consumed the national consciousness. With each passing debate, speech, headline, and commercial, we have been flooded with negative messages that are highlighting all that is wrong with our current and perspective political leaders. We seem to have leaders who are devoid of the character necessary to handle the great challenges that face our nation and our world. It would be easy to sit in a state of despair about the future of our country. I, however, find solitude in knowing that we are raising a new generation of young adults in our schools, such as Nathan Lefeld, who can strive of excellence academically, persevere through adversity, find joy in service to others, and work extremely hard to earn…

The event I decided to attend was the presentation “Dreamers after DACA” by Maria Belen Sisa. The main reason I decided to attend this presentation was mainly due to the fact that the DACA situation is something I am actively involved in and hearing stories of individuals under this program gives me insight as to what is currently happening to them after the program was ended. Sisa also discussed ways to get involved and take action to demand a clean Dream Act which was another factor as to why I attended. This event relates to the course’s theme because it discussed the issue of ethnicity and ethnic groups in education and employment.…

I really enjoyed the guest speaker, Cathleen Morgan and was quite impressed with her forsaking aspect of being on the board of education. She gave a new insight on the idea that we are no longer a minority and majority school district. Whites were truly the minority, of which 35% are Hispanics and 15% are black. The idea that teaching with these numbers is extremely hard to do and is a challenge. The challenge of experiencing a certain culture and gaining a new culture at the same time.…
