Chapter 6 is the first chapter thus far in Storr’s writing which has not included one of Storr’s experiences; rather, this chapter seemed to serve more as a continuation or explanation of the previous chapter. Storr delved deep into neuroscientific discussion in this chapter: he discussed the age, origin, and understood phenomena of the brain before shifting toward more theoretical discourse. Knowing that his points became increasingly complex as the chapter progressed, Storr directly addressed the reader multiple times – for example, this instance on page 77: “If you are thinking that you must be misunderstanding all of this, because it is just too spooky… then I am sorry to tell you that you are not” (Storr 77). He ended the chapter speaking completely to the reader and ultimately insinuated that misunderstanding or even rejecting theoretical neuroscience is okay because “you are, after all, only human” (Storr 91).…

The Army’s Leaders, in turn, must protect their Soldiers and maintain their readiness at all times. To do this, the Army developed several programs intended to keep Soldiers active and prepared for the challenges they will face. The Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness, SH/ARP, and Suicide Prevention programs are some of the most prominent in a long list of initiatives the Army created to take care of its Soldiers. Over the last 1.5 years, the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) has undergone significant change. Following a nine month deployment to Afghanistan, the Brigade appears to be overcome by stress, fatigue, leadership, and ethics issues. While many might categorize these as normal post deployment occurrences, they appear to run much deeper. The events of the previous deployment coupled with the death of the Brigade Commander, Brigade Sergeant Major and a Battalion Commander appear to be the critical events that triggered the downward slide of the Brigade.…

Modern day Army Ranger’s link their history back to two unique periods of time. The earliest years of the Rangers come from the pre-American Revolution era led by Robert Roger. The post-American Revolution era was led by Francis Marion during the American Revolution and John S. Mosby during the American Civil War. While these men did not have the formalized training that is available today, it can easily be said that they would still have met the standards that were established. The second key era for the Rangers bringing them to a more “modern” since was with the formation of Darby’s Rangers during the Second World War.…

The needs of the Department of Defense will dictate three areas of the R&R battalion 's mission: 1) the amount of people the state will be able to recruit into their ranks as new soldiers; 2) the amount of currently enlisted soldiers it will be allowed to retain as to the end strength number and 3) how many soldiers or what percentage of soldiers the state will need to lose to attrition, as a result of the mandated end strength for the Army as a whole. All these factors will play into the mindset of key leaders from the state level and the recruiting command structure. As far as managing the change, the image of the leader will have to vary, from the director, navigator and caretaker role, as far as having and maintaining control of the change to that of the coach, interpreter and nurturer and helping to shape the changes needed to sustain the organization at the required or acceptable levels, according to DOD standards and…
