CPS cases in America are continuing to rise each year, and the number of innocent children being abused are as well. It is important that we stand up for these children who cannot stand up for themselves with effective tactics. The CPS (Child Protective Services) is a government organization that focuses on the well-being of children and the disabled. After children are reported to CPS as being abused, the children and their families are sent through a long web of social and legal services whose jobs are to ensure the children’s safety (Paxton, Christina, and Ron Haskins). Every year, CPS and other organizations that are child welfare supporters, causes defenseless children their lives by keeping them with their abusive families too long. In 1996, an average of 2 children died each week in New York as a result of child abuse. 1/3rd of those cases were because of CWA’s neglect to the case (Stoesz, David, and Howard Jacob Karger). These numbers are very troubling coming from people who are supposed to be child abuse experts. There was a case that opened in New York the CPS, about a young child named Elisa Izquierdo. Elisa was tortured by her mother, resulting in her death (American Journalism Review). Her mother made Elisa eat her feces, sexually abused her with a hairbrush, and used her head to mop the floors. This happened to Elisa, because the Agency failed to do their job. Three-year-old Eli Creekmore was killed by his father, despite the fact that the CPS was intervening in his home. The agency was notified multiple times from a daycare worker, a waitress, and even Eli’s grandmother about Eli’s appalling physical abuse. Despite Eli’s grandmothers attempt to rescue him, Eli was forced to stay in his dangerous home by the agency, where his father eventually beat him to death. Every 6 hours, another children dies as a result from abuse or neglect and child welfare agencies are monitoring more than 40% of these children (Mulder-Westrate, Kelli M.) Children are left in situations longer than they are supposed to be, and this results in children being abused repeatedly, and in some instances, resulting in the child’s death. Each year, the numbers of children abused and killed rises. CPS needs to put an end to this horrible cycle, and remove children from these harmful environments before it is too late for
