The CELDT level 2 student can repeat sentences, phrases, and speak in simple sentences. This student can also write in simple sentences and excels in mathematics. Will need a lot of repeated oral vocabulary in order to grasp the academic language. In reading groups, all of my reading levels are currently working on pulling facts from an informational texts and comparing similar texts to others. When I provide homework, I encourage students who don’t understand a problem to come to the back of the classroom to get additional help the next day. This strategy is especially useful for my struggling and CELDT level 2 and 3 students who have trouble understanding the wording of a problem.

When looking at my classroom as a whole to include all reading and language levels for my learning segment, students will need to learn the vocabulary before they can grasp the concept of fractions. Vocabulary will be introduced through visual aids that will be posted throughout the learning segment so students will be exposed to the academic language. These visuals will especially benefit my struggling students and EL’s because visuals are a great scaffold. I will also provide hands on opportunities that will benefit my struggling and EL’s, which will help students see fraction

Teachers have to take into consideration an ELL student’s linguistic and cognitive level when assessing their work. Although, the ELL student may have a cognitive level he or she may not be able to linguistically explain or comprehend the information to succeed in the task at hand. The teacher needs to make accommodations that aid the student so that he or she can meet their learning goals. In the language arts assignments above, the teacher should first supply the student with the vocabulary/spelling words and the cognates from their native language.…

Mary Beth Stevens suggests writing supports reading by asking students to draw upon common knowledge and thinking processes (2014). In the Texas Treasures Literature curriculum students continually respond to text through writing activities. At the end of each section they record their responses by writing a personal response. These responses require critical and higher order thinking skills because students answer open-ended questions and utilize summarization, inference and interpreting meaning skills. This allows students to explore their own thoughts and make connections to the text.…

This was relevant for my own learning experience when I was in school, especially with division; I just could never seem to grasp how it worked in relation to multiplication. Occasionally, I am still met with decisions which test this understanding, however, I can now see the imperativeness of the learning process behind all mathematical skills, not just division, as students learn best with the instruction of a professional teacher; one who is experienced and knowledgeable in what they are teaching (Lakin,…

It is still early in the year, and a lot of the student data has not been calculated yet, but from what I have observed, there is one student who is very new to English and is in ELL. Based on this fact an instructional strategy I would use is checking for understanding and questioning, a student who is new to English may have a hard time understanding what is happening, and may not ask for help. With this, if they do not ask for help, and the teacher does not check if they understand, the student will not do very well with assignments, and will not further their learning. An activity that can be used with this student is during reading, they have a more one-on-one learning environment, and have a list of simple questions, like who is in the story, where are they, and what is happening on this page, this will check if the student is understanding the story, as well as help them to answer these questions even when they do not have the paper.…

Strengthening the student toolbox by Dunlosky describes multiple strategies that students can use to learn certain amounts of information that the students have to know in a class and in turn strategies on how teachers can teach their students. These strategies were as follows for students and teachers being the good; practice testing, disturbed practice, interleaved practice, elaborative interrogation, self-explanation, and the bad; rereading, highlighting, summarization, keyword mnemonic and imagery for text. All of these strategies are and can be used by students and helped or hindered along by their teachers, some more than others. In my high school years I received multiple instructions to not cram study for a test and to space out studying for it in the days leading up to the test.…

Fractions Understanding a half When students begin learning about fractions, it is imperative that the educator starts by assessing the students understanding of what a half is. Based on the Australian Curriculum this often takes place in the Year One descriptor (ACMNA016), where it identifies that students are able to half an item and identify how it is an equal portion. Developing a understanding into how to halve an object so both parts are equal, play a vital role in understanding how fraction work, this is based on a half being the largest fraction before making a whole. A child can demonstrate a understanding by folding a piece of paper over onto itself to make half, but then also go on to describe that they are equal as they are equal…

Assignment Instructions: When a detection algorithm determines that a deadlock exists, the system must recover from the deadlock. The most common solution is to roll back one or more transactions to break the deadlock. List the three actions that need to be taken using figure 16.18 to discuss. (Silberschatz, Korth, & Sudarshan, 2001, p.618) A deadlock occurs when a sequence of transactions is waiting for access to data that is being held by a lock in another transaction in the same cycling sequence, thus keeping each from completing as they wait upon each other to release their locks.…
