Bust Of Paris

The artwork “Bust of Paris” can be seen on the left side and the lines used are to create a form of body, which can be specifically seen in hair with fine details. Line is also created to show creases in sculpture, also seen in lips and eyes. There is thick line on bottom of bust by pillar, but there is thin delicate line in hair with subtle line in body. Also there is heavy line on top of hat. These lines are implied into chiseled pieces, which build up in lines in hair. Movement in line can be seen in the neck-curved line that builds up to hair and face, which then goes up to hat and brings it back down to chest and repeats process. Canova uses a lot of diagonal lines in body to show movement such as in the neck, shoulders, and head to give the appearance it is looking at you. More rhythmic lines can be seen in dainty curls of hair.
The bust focuses space around viewer’s space, as it is 3D. It focus’s the space around the head and neck. Space is crowded more around hair, but is sparse on back. Canova uses negative space to show marble and positive space to create form; an example would be the nose.
The marble currently appears to be an off white color, but white color emphasizes a pureness that helps symbolize the statute as a pure being. …show more content…
The piece is symmetrical on face and form of where hair and hat are placed upright. Although, it is asymmetrical with neck and body turning one way, details hairs in curls, and creases in body to make it appear natural but not symmetrical. This bust is around life size scale and the composition of figure is varied. This can be seen crowded near hair creases, but neck and body are open with head movement, and head movement is repetitive towards curls. The middle ground would be where the pillar is sculpted and placed while the foreground would be the body of marble sculpture, but background would be space around
