The phrase “it's better to have studied too much, than to not have studied at all” is commonplace in high school. The more you prepare, the better you generally do in the long run, even if this excessive effort leads to a burnout. Like studying for a school test, more preparation will do you more good. Too often, student find themselves in a hassle during their final few high school years preparing for college, amassing several standardized test, choosing their school of choice, and choosing their educational destination. The process is tiresome, and often results in students falling short of this completion, or simply becoming burn out with the entire process. It is because of these factors that we should consider elongating the college readiness process, because getting children thinking about their college education at an early age allows them to make smaller steps over a longer period, allowing them to ease over the stress of the college readiness preparation in high school. If you asked an elementary or middle schooler what they aspired to major in, you are more than likely to get a clueless response, or perhaps a dream job, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. Thinking about college at an early age does not mean that you know every step of the path ahead, it's knowing how to take on the next step. If we allowed students to begin understanding their personal interests and talents from an early age, , student will be more confident with their decisions when they are in high school. Simply put, If a student in middle school today were given the tools necessary to perform well in high school, it would be college preparation enough. This means that we would have to slowly move away from our current system of regular subject courses, and allow students to take a variety of courses to allow them to develop interests before college. Such a system would also allow a student to understand what their dislikes are too, so that that understanding does not result in a change in major. College preparation in early learning can be implemented through a change in the way we view early education, drastically changing how student view their later careers. Having middle and elementary school students think about their future in college allows them to dease off the increase in workload in their high school years, resulting in a smaller burnout by the end of their k-12 education. Although such is possible, it is far less likely than a burnout to overexposure in a short amount of time. This can be proved through what is happening in our current time. Students burn out when they stress out. Because of this, students drop out, they take a break year after high school, or they end up switching majors several times in college. All these things could be fixed with the implementation of early college readiness programs. We know that spreading things over a long period of time can alleviate the burnout, and so a burnout is far less likely. Small doses of these college reminders can result in the long term success of many students. By exposing them to a path just a little, students can make better decisions in their high school years and thus have a better chance of making it into
