Bullying Stories And Effects Taylor Teff - Bullying happens all over the world and some cases are worse than others. Have you ever thought someone would end their life over bullying? Many teens have ended their lives because they are bullying targets. Fortunately, Amanda Todd and Phoebe Princes bullying stories end in suicides. Kids have found help from family and friends to stand up for themselves, like Lizzie Velasquez and and Adelia Rose. People are sometimes scared to stand up for someone because they are afraid of being bullied. Bullying has many effects on people, and everyone handles it differently. Some kids have disabilities that present challenges for them. Progeria is a rare disease that causes people to age faster unfortunately. …show more content…
Amanda was a normal teen who made one mistake that impacted the rest of her life. She was using a webcam chat to meet new friends and showcase her singing skills. She met an anonymous “boy” online that she thought was somewhat her age. He convinced her to show her chest. Once she showed her chest he took a picture of it. He threatened her to show more, or he would show the picture to everyone. She refused and he kept his word. He sent the picture to the whole school. She felt alienated and moved schools because of the bullying from her classmates. Her stalker continued to follow her, and continued to send the photo. It soon lead to depression, drugs, alcohol, and cutting. Her dad found her once laying in a ditch, saying “she wanted to die so bad”. When she got home, she drank bleach and had to go to the hospital to have her stomach pumped. She soon moved although the harassment started again. Kids posted pictures of ditches and suggested to try different bleach. Soon she made a video called “My story:struggling, bullying, suicide, self harm”. It was a story of all the things that happened and what she went through. She put that video on youtube on September 7th. On October 10th she committed suicide in her hometown of Port Coquitlam. Suicide is the leading cause of deaths among young people, a statistic shows 4,400 deaths per year, for every suicide there is 100 suicide attempts according to bullyingstatistics.com. She moved to America in September and enrolled in South Hadley High School in Massachusetts. When she enrolled in South Hadley she had a very good status, a lot of boys were attracted to her. She started dating a boy, Sean Mulveyhill, soon the relationship ended. Phoebe soon went to a new boy Austin Renaud, after they broke up, their ex girlfriends were out for her. They started bullying her both of the ex girlfriends and their best friends then they were called the “South Hadley Six”. They bullied her all the time. She lost friends because they didn't want to get bullied. It soon went too far, Phobe Prince got raped by Sean Mulveyhill and Austin Renaud. It pushed her to the end of her life. She committed suicide on January 14th 2010. After she passed away people pushed the school to take charge. The South Hadley Six had some consequences for what they did. They were expelled out of school, Sean lost his football scholarship and Austin and him were charged for statutory rape but later the charges were dropped. They were all on probation and were facing court dates. Some kids receive stronger consequences than that. A statistic shows 21% of kids have received mean or threatening emails or other messages according to stompoutbullying.com.
