Bullying is not a Joking Matter Bullying is something that has been occurring for ever. Most people don't realize the emotional toll it can do to others. Being bullied causes kids to have a bad high school experience. Bullying is a high cause of depression and suicide. Bullying is something that gets over looked, and should be taken more seriously, rather than a joking matter. Cyberbullying is a very popular way to bully others. People use Cyberbullying because they can hide their faces, not show who they are, and it is often something they wouldn't say in person. Peer pressure is a big reason bullying happens. "Someone will be pushed by a peer to say something or post something mean about someone" (why does a bully) . They will usually end up doing it because they feel like they can't tell somebody no. Another peer pressure situation is when someone is "trying to show off to other people" (why does a bully). If situations like this happen at school the bully should have automatic expulsion and the teachers should have their license taken away. Even though those are very good reason to take bullying very seriously it is not the number one reason. The number one reason bullying should have harsher punishments is because it is already an illegal act. Assault and battery is an illegal act and bullying is another act of assault. Bullying is a synonym for harassment, and harassment is considered illegal, therefore bullying should be too. In some cases "bullying and harassment can even be considered a federal offense". For example, when "bullying is considered a federal law is when it break the civil rights law" (federal laws) . The civil rights law protects people from being harassed about their skin color or origin. Bullying is taken very lightly in the world today and it shouldn't be. Bullying causes depression and forces kids into committing suicide or at least being suicidal. Another reason it should be taken care of harshly is because it can be considered a federal law in certain cases. Bullying needs to have harsher punishments than what it has right
