Over the years Brownsville, Texas has been in the process of industrializing and coming up with ideas to do so. Recently, Brownsville has proposed to build a Liquefied natural gas, “(LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4) that has been converted to liquid form for ease of storage or transport” (Project). This process also requires very strict safety measures and precautions during all liquefaction stages, due to the flammable nature of the gas involved. If a leak happens in the process of the gas being transported, then anybody around the area the gas can cause an asphyxiation hazard to anyone exposed. Texas LNG will construct, own and operate an LNG facility to be constructed at the Port of Brownsville in Brownsville, Texas. Building an LNG plant is not a good idea because it will contaminate the air, water resources, wetlands and cause unemployment.

In order to export the gas, it has to be 99% pure and refrigerated. In order for the gas to be refrigerated, they will have to take out impurities including “carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, volatile organic compounds, and mercury” (Rio). Some of these toxins will be released into the environment. These toxins are considered hazardous, which can cause asthma attacks and could reach all the way to Port Isabel’s school. For this cause it is critical that residents should know the consequences of this production and take into consideration the approval of this
