Broken Glass Burglar Crime Report

Fragments of broken glass from sources like windowpanes, and plate glass doors, have slightly different densities. (Bureau of Forensic Services, 2011) If a burglary has occurred, and glass has fallen onto the floor, and the suspect burglar was near the glass when it shattered, perhaps small fragments of glass can be found ensconced in the suspect clothing, particularly in the lower trouser leg areas or the soles of his shoes. (Bureau of Forensic Services, 2011) When a suspect is apprehended and his living quarters searched you may found traces of glass fragment evidence. During the examination of the trousers and shoes, you may find glass fragments in the fibers and the sole of the shoes. Once the glass particles are removed, a density test will be performed in an attempt to link the fragments of glass in found in the trousers and shoes to the glass fragment collected at the scene. …show more content…
(Bureau of Forensic Services, 2011) The density of the glass may be slightly different because of size. However, the glass fragments are careful analysis, and this will make a difference in appearance. “Density is defined as the mass per unit volume” (Saferstein, 2015, p. 205). With the flotation method, a glass particle is immersed in a liquid, and the density of the liquid is carefully adjusted by the addition of small amounts of bromoform or bromobenzene unit the glass particles remain suspended in the liquid medium. (Saferstein, 2015) If the two glasses are similar in density, each will continue to be suspended in the liquid. However, if the glass particles are different densities, the glass particles will either rise or sink depending on whether the glass fragments are more or less dense than the liquid. (Saferstein,

Why is crime such a large part of our everyday society? Since the beginning of time, crime has been a large part of history, which gradually increased throughout the years, and continues today in everyday life. Crime is something that is caused by either force, impulse, fun, accident, or environmental factors. Some people have been raised since childhood in areas where crime rates were at a high and this may have compelled them to follow a negative figure, thus resulting in that person committing crimes. Malcolm Gladwell, author of Power of Context: Bernie Goetz and the Rise and Fall of New York City Crime, mentions how key concepts shape the way in which crimes are performed through an individual’s involvement with his or her environment and…

Introduction Density measures the volume that a given amount of mass takes up. Usually, density has grams per unit volume as a unit. To find the density of an object, the object has to be measured and its mass has to be divided by its volume. Often times, density is used to identify substances, since different elements have specific densities. This experiment is made up of two sections; the first section measures the density of water and the density of an unknown substance.…

The impact of crime on people’s lives takes many forms (Haigh, 2006). Burglary is a crime which has evolved drastically over time, but in all its forms it has always reflected the significance of breaking into a building, or part thereof, and the damage that it can cause to both people and property. Policymakers have long sought to use law to shape the physical environment to reduce crime (Anderson, MacDonald, Bluthenthal, & Ashwood, 2013). Such efforts date at least as far back as the Statute of Winchester in 1285, in which King Edward I required the widening of highways and removal of bushes that provided cover to robbers (Anderson, MacDonald, Bluthenthal, & Ashwood, 2013). Beginning in the 1970’s, criminologists and researchers began…

From this figure, can be observed that the ρ and Mv decreased with the increased of copper oxide content replacement the lead oxide. The decrease of density due to the molecular weight of CuO is lower than the molecular weight of Pb3O4. The decrease of the molar volume due to the decrease the number of oxygen and may be the ionic radius of copper ions less than the ionic radius of lead ions.…
