In the story Charles by Shirley Jackson, the main character is Laurie who was lying the entire time about the naughty boy in his kindergarten school named "Charles". "Charles" was the normal kid at first, then he started to be a bad kid. He do the opposite things whenever his teacher taught him something. He even hit the teacher when he do something wrong. I feel like I can connect myself to the story because I was a bad student in kindergarten when I was a kid.

I remembered when I was in kindergarten, I always wanted to eat "bad foods" such as candies, chips, chocolate,..etc as long as it's sweet then I could even get addicted to it easily. Gradually, it became my daily needs. At that time, I did not know that eating too much sweet things could cause you diabetes so I ate candy innocently. When I first went to kindergarten, my teacher asked me why would I eat so many candy and is it okay if she would like to have some. I innocently told her that it’s because I love sweet things and I let her eat some of my candy. She started to talk to my mom about it and they was trying to find a way for me not to eat too much junk foods. My mom actually did not let me eat candy whenever she’s home or whenever she saw me eating a candy so I decided to hide away from her whenever I wanted to eat candy. I started to steal some candies at home and put it in my backpacks to school so that I could eat as much

People in authority tend to disregard those who and that of which does not benefit them, since the poor did not seem to benefit anybody, people in authority found them useless. An excellent example of someone who did not care for the poor would be Emperor Charles V. Charles believed that if begging would be permitted to anyone, it would eventually be taken advantage of (Doc 2). Charles has tremendous power due to the fact that Charles was an emperor. Charles believed that people would ,” abandon their trade or occupation for a wicked and contemptible life and condemn their daughter to poverty, unhappiness, and all manner of wickedness and vice” (Doc 2). The Tell-Tale Heart is a story written by Edgar Allen Poe and is a story which I’m pretty sure, much like many other mandatory school readings like Shakespeare and Thatcher, that many of you have read and most of you have forgotten, myself included. To recap the tale, and summarize for those of you who actually haven’t read it, the Tell-Tale Heart follows the story of a man who tries his best to convince us he is not crazy whilst he plots to murder someone for the sole reason that one specific detail of the man displeases him. The story literally opens up with the man asking us if we will think him mad once the story is over, in fact it references a disease afflicting the man himself clueing us in that this man might be an unreliable narrator. The written language of the text definitely harkens back to around the 1800s with specific mention going to the placement of words in sentences and the significance of certain aspects of the Christian mythos, which was quite popular back then.…

This short story anthology is a collection of stories, which show step by step plot driven stories that follow traditional plot, but also being bad and dark, leaving the reader with a disturbing image, which does not replicate what many short stories are written about today. The stories I choose to include in my anthology are: “Where are you going Where have you been” by Joyce Carol Oates, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, “The Other Place” by Mary Gaitskill, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’brien, “Jumper Down” by Don Shea, “Jens” by Ross Nervig and Encounters with the Unexpected Animals” by Anthony Johnson. All these stories share a dark element within them making them all connect, leaving a perfect fit for this anthology.…
