Bridgestone America's Trait Theory

The Bridgestone Americas hiring process uses a variety of the Trait theory during its hiring process to find traits that are related to good workers and leaders. At our plant, we use a personality test to get the feel of the way the person thinks, and their natural traits will arise from the questionnaire. The questions are not true or false, but they are on a scale to purposely feel how much the candidate is for or against a situation or decision. Our company is looking for traits of good ethical leaders through the answers of the situations, and that's where is relates to the trait theory. This personality test has shown some prominent success with the hiring process to obtain quality leaders in our organization.

Being a leader takes strong people skills. A great leader also needs to be able to influence people to see and follow the direction of the leader. One of the most prominent leaders in history is Martin Luther King Jr. He had a vision that was very powerful and denied to be turned away from his views. Martin Luther King Jr. was a transformational leader who spoke of freedom and equality for all people. The leadership at Bridgestone Americas Tire Company follow closely to the transformational leadership theory as an organization. The transformation leadership theory inspires workers to achieve the incredible results and gives the workers the authority to make decisions after the proper training occurs (Spahr, 2014). The best attribute from the transformational leadership theory is the leader's ability to motivate the employees, to bring the best out of them and the organization. The way transformational leadership works is the personal relationships and trust of smaller groups creates an environment where the leader has a huge influence on the output and demeanor of their employees. According to McGuire and Hutchings (2007) article, " The appeal of transformational leadership lies in the ability of the leader to inspire followers to transcend their interests and work towards the benefit of all" (p.156). This situation creates a family-like culture that improves communication and works performance quality. The transformational leadership style requirements include being organized and expect followers to be creative, team-oriented, respected, the leader is the coach of the team, instills responsibility into team members and creates respect through a personal influence (Spahr, 2014).
