First, there are carcinomas, which are cancers that arise in layers of cells covering the body. Melanomas, another form, originate in the skin pigment cells. Cancer found in supporting tissues of the body are known as Sarcomas. Gliomas, cancer of the nerve tissue, is another type of cancer. These cancers all originate in a single place but can easily spread to another part of the body (Sullivan). The types of cancers that can affect the body come in many different forms also. Leukemia, cancer of blood cells, begins in the bone marrow and makes abnormal blood cells. Cancer of the rectum, colon cancer, causes a change in bowel habits or bleeding. The future of finding a treatment for cancer has proved to be difficult, but not hopeless. Cancer can be destroyed through chemotherapy and radiation, but it is hard to remove or kill all parts of cancer in the body without damaging other body parts. Cancer has proven itself problematic because of its ability to create a resistance to some medicine and other forms of treatment. Even with cancers beyond our capabilities at the time, there are treatments available to help prolong the lives of those diagnosed with it to release stress of those with it (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). As for breast cancer, mammograms will begin to be taken according to individual’s needs and risk of having cancer. Women, and men if needed, will be told when to get screened, how often to be screened, and at what age range they should be screened. These specific directions will be determined by history, gender, race, age and more.
