The “BCWA” (breast cancer welfare association) is the group also in the advertisement wanting women to take their advice. “Some women, however, feel uncomfortable doing monthly self-breast exams or may be anxious when finding ‘lumpy bumpy breast tissue’ that may be completely normal.” In fact, you can’t only rely on breast cancer self-examinations alone to be absolutely sure that you are cancer free, although that is the first step and should be done throughout your life monthly. With that being said, they are not a substitute for unvarying screening mammograms or medical breast exams to discover breast cancer. The American cancer society claims that, “women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam at least once every three years. Beginning at age 40, women should have a clinical breast exam and screening mammogram every year. Women at high risk of developing breast cancer should add magnetic resonance imaging screening to their yearly mammogram."
Lastly, women don’t necessarily know the significance of breast cancer and how it’s important to find it early on.
