Boys And Girls Club Personal Statement

My interest in clinical psychology is reflected through my work experience at the Boys and Girls Club in Reading, PA and as an Academic Coach for Tutoring Services. As a Psychology major, I am able to understand and promote well-being and personal development. As a mentor for the children at The Boys and Girls Club, I made it my duty to make sure that I exemplify the best role model. I enjoy helping children at the club with their homework because they need someone to have patience. I am unaware of their illnesses but I treat each child equally and wish to help them in any way possible to make sure they are comfortable. Most of the children in Reading are Latino, many do not speak English and some are not doing well with reading or mathematics. …show more content…
I get to know them personally by asking questions about what they want to do with their life, how they are doing in their classes, and give them tips on what to get involved in so they can start to think about their career. This job has allowed me to work with a variety of children who are at different stages in their life and need guidance. The job has allowed me to show children that I want to help them and make sure that they succeed. The Boys and Girls Club poses as an after school program to keep students off the streets and to make sure they have the resources and tools to grow and continue to progress through life. At the club, I started a Step Team. The children loved it and I enjoyed teaching it because it allowed for me to get to know them and work with their individual needs because it gave them to have an activity to look forward to.
