In text A, “When people go to Heaven, do they have to wear a life jacket”, we, as the audience, are presented with the innocence of a child. He doesn’t know anything about death. This results in a very conflicting mood, since we have the innocent child presented on one side, versus the actual topic of death on the other. The text also presents very abstract descriptions on the topic of death. For instance, “who had told him two days previous – tremulous, clutching a rosary – that she expected to be in Heaven soon with her husband, Stan.”, doesn’t really describe death itself in any way. Similarly, text B also discusses the topic on death and how this could be presented to younger ones, yet it doesn’t seem to give a clear definition on what death is either. Moreover, the tone of the text differs completely as well. Dead people obviously can’t walk and they surely do not wear life jackets on their journey to Heaven. Not only does this influence the tone of the text, it adds to the character as well.
