Reflective Journal - David Taransaud presentation David's Taransaud is a psychotherapeutic counsellor and author who has over 15 years experience working with challenging young people in some of London’s most deprived areas. His presentation was a thought provoking experience that has opened up more questions about myself and my practice than I anticipated. David explained his belief that the most challenging young people, without exception have suffered abuse and shame. He further explained his notion that these children suppress their feelings deep inside to such an extent that they can no longer feel.…
This critical reflective account will discuss the development of me as a leader and manager within my health profession and my team, over the course of The Mary Seacole Programme. I have identified my leadership strengths and my personal development. This course has encouraged me to reflect upon my vision and style of management, and has allowed me to further identify areas that I will need to enhance into making me a more versatile leader. Part 1 Developing my leadership skills is important for me given the circumstances that as a first time leader whose job role previously didn’t involve having a team managed by myself, to a position now who manages or interact extensively with staff and patients daily, therefore during my time undertaking…
Critical Reflection Journal 1 When I think of the experiences I have encountered here at Providence Place, various mental health conditions come to mind. However, from first hand experience, the most prevalent disorder I have been exposed to, in this short amount of time would be Dementia. My one resident, C.G, who specifically presented with this condition, is an 87-year-old male who was recently registered at Providence Place. It was during our first encounter, when I began to notice the symptoms of his Dementia. For instance, when we began to engage in a game of crib and it was his turn to deal, I glanced over at him…
I am a Student Paramedic with the East Of England Ambulance NHS Trust and this essay will look reflectively at an incident I attended during the course of my duties. The assignment will reflect on the moral, ethical and legal aspects of pre-hospital care that challenged me during this particular emergency. Reflective practice is a requirement of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, 2014). Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper (2001) state, “we learn by doing and realising what came of what we did”.…
Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…
The idea of having this literacy journal was excellent, the fact that the student has the opportunity to show their amazing talents as a writer’s was just perfect Bronx Community and all the people that collaborated for this to happen needs an APPLAUSE, this book made me love writing even more, every single one of the writer’s that were able to put this work together did a marvelous job. From the introduction with the memory of Kalief Brower to the poems and short stories all were well done, showing the writer's passion, love and the dedications. As I was reading the book I was getting more enthusiastic to finish completely, because every piece shows feelings, which is something that I considered important when it’s come to writing.…
Reflective Statement Before the interactive oral on the impact of translations in the understanding of novels, I never regarded the influence of a translation on my understanding. While reading The Stranger, I knew the book had been translated from French, but disregarded that the translation might lead to alterations of words or ideas based on the style of the translation. With books originally written in one’s own language, it becomes easier to derive meaning closer to the author’s intentions as meaning through translating the language. However, after the Interactive Oral, I have a greater awareness of such aspects.…
The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…
When I first heard about AJROTC, I wanted to take no part in it since I visioned myself being yelled at by the instructors and wearing those unappealing, green uniforms. I finally decided to join the program not because I wanted to, but because my friends joined the program as well in order to avoid being in PE. I didn’t know what I had gotten myself into. Seeing cadets being eager to take on leadership roles was something I didn't want to be involved in.…
The statement by Nick Stockton refers to the brain's ability to compile and store information that then is retrieved at a later time. For example, students may walk to their next class despite not actively thinking where they are going. However, this kind of generalization is not completely accurate and can skip over details that are irrelevant to the overarching meaning of whatever is being recalled. Such oversight is a contributing factor to peoples' inability to recognize typos. The brain is more concerned about connecting ideas and conveying meaning than it is with meticulously following every character or word.…
Starting out my first semester in my undergraduate studies, I was so confident, believing that I would never become behind on assignments and will spend a tremendous amount of time studying. Unknowingly, I became behind on picking a preview date and was left with only a limited amount of open classes. While attending the preview, I was given a plan from DegreWorks that was filled with courses recommended for me my first semester. One of the courses apart of the plan was UNIV 150. After being unsure about the course, I did some further investigation on what I would be learning and then I asked myself, “Why do I need to take a course about college writing when I primarily took Pre-AP classes throughout high school? ”…
So far, I can say that the strategies I learned in chapter have helped become a better note-taker. Now before I take notes I consider my goals and what I want to get out of my notes. I actively listen to what the professor has to say so that I can understand “is being said, making sense of it, and thinking about it in a way that permits it to be recalled accurately” (Feldman 58-59). For a student currently enrolled in college composition, this technique has helped me gather information more effectively for my essays. My essays are now more precise and provide more…
Reflective Journal-1: Inclusion as an ideal Inclusion as an ideal and it is practical but there are some benefits and drawbacks. One goal of inclusion is for every school to be ready in advance, to accept children with diverse abilities. think inclusion means full children with diverse abilities in all aspects of schooling that other children are able to access and enjoy. The benefits are the teacher view. The teacher view each child as an individual with unique strengths and needs regardless of what diagnosis they might have, or what category they might fit into.…
Hi Mrs. Araiza, Thank you so much for agreeing to be my reference and sorry for the late reply, this past week was extremely hectic for me. Most of my activities are from this school year since I was really overwhelmed last year and was not very active in any clubs/ organizations that I signed up for during the beginning of the year. Well for starter, I am currently working at UCLA School of Dentistry's Finance Office as a Work Study/ Student Assistant. This is a great experience for me as an Economics major since I was able to have hand-on working experience with financial documents. In addition to that, I recently ended my three months internship as a Marketing Maestro/ PR Agent for a Public Relation Agency.…
