Another slur in To Kill a Mockingbird is when everyone calls the Ewells trash,"…Among the trash and cast-offs in the Ewell yard, there’s one spot of beauty…” (Lee 160-170.)
Everyone called the Ewells trash even before the trail. They were judging the Ewell family and they didn't really know them. Trash could mean many things like no good, that would hurt the Ewells and that would make them hate everyone in Macomb that talked about them and made them feel bad. The next way To Kill a Mockingbird could be banned from schools is the tension it provokes. There is lots of tension in the novel; one act of tension is when Mr. Ewell spit in Atticus's face. Atticus was checking on Tom and of course Ewell followed him, he called Atticus outside, Atticus walked outside the house and looked at Ewell and said, "What do you want Ewell." Mr. Ewell just stared and all of the sudden he spit in Atticus's face."...he'd thought he'd be a hero, but all he got for his plane was... okay…"(Lee 335-340.) This shows tension by it was basically a starring contest, then boom spit was flying thru the air, and there was no words from Atticus he stood there wiped his face then went home quietly. Another act of tension is when Scout and Jem go to the radley house and Jem gets his pants stuck in the fence when they where sneaking around looking for a man named Boo Radley, they ran away from the house because they heard a gunshot,"... I tripped the roar of a gunshot shattered the neighborhood…"(Lee 76-80.) Thus this shows tension because they could have been shot and killed. This could also influence kids at schools to want to shoot guns to care
