Bonjour, Hello, and Hola, these are three of the ways in which I can say “Hello”. As a fellow Mexican-American, selecting French as my foreign language was not viewed as the norm, but it seemed more challenging and most captivating to my eye. It was not just because my older sister told me that we would have crepe days once a month, the french language always interested me. My French teacher was a foreign exchange student in France in her years of high school. As she spoke of her experiences abroad and the food, religion, history, culture, and language of the country I became captivated with the idea of travelling. When making doctor’s appointments, speaking to a cashier, or asking for help out at a store, my parents relied on me to communicate.
