The tibia, or shinbone, is the most commonly fractured bone in the leg since it is the weight-bearing bone. Long bones like the femur, humerus, and fibula break readily as well. Long bones in the leg fracture from high energy collisions. For instance, they could shatter as a result of the impact of falling from a tree. The usual treatments for a fracture include the use of a boot or brace in order to decrease the amount of pressure applied to the leg. Some may need surgery if the break needs to be adjusted to heal correctly.
There are a few unconventional, not yet proven treatments. Bone stimulators are an option, and there are many different types. They stimulate the natural healing of the bone by sending pulses of electromagnetic energy
