We live in a “media-saturated” world (National Eating Disorder). This disconnect from reality and over connect to the media inevitably influences one’s self-perception. Media most often targets adolescents who are susceptible to peer pressure and most easily influenced by the images projected in the media (Tiggeman & Pickering, 1996). This can have detrimental effects on how they perceive their bodies (Clark & Tiggeman, 2007). A negative body image is often associated with females, yet in recent years, research has revealed that it troubles males as well. We cannot control the message that the media conveys hence the concern of its effects on the young people of today. Though there is no single definitive cause of body dissatisfaction, the media imperceptibly shapes what people perceive as attractive thus heightening body image issues (Canada). It even goes as far as magazines promising that if women can lose the last five pounds they’ll find love, success, and happiness. Companies are attuned to the fact that the more insecure women and girls are about their body, the more likely they are to buy new products to compensate for what they feel that they are lacking. This promotes a vicious cycle of promoting body dissatisfaction (Sumithran, Prendergast, Delbridge, Purcell, Shulkes, Kriketos, &Proietto, 2011). The constant exposure to thin airbrushed beautiful celebrities not only encourages women to buy certain products to make themselves feel better, but it directly correlates with lower self esteem and unhealthy eating habits (Sumithran et al, 2011). A study that was conducted in 2009 even uncovered that “girls who were unhappy with their bodies—whether they were genuinely overweight or not—were significantly more at risk for attempting suicide (Girls Guiding UK,
