People often associate positive body image with healthy body. Postive image and Healthy body image for a person is to be satisfied, comfortable and accepting of their bodies. On the other hand, for negative or unhealthy body image it’s the opposite. If someone is unhappy and not comfortable they are experiencing the negative body image of their selves. The importance of this for adolescence is in the puberty stage because they are looking to fit in and trying to look the same as other people.

According to my research, it is found an estimate of 24 million people who suffer from anorexia, bulimia or binge. “20-25 percent progress to partial or full-syndrome eating disorders, eating disorders typically begin in adolescence or early adulthood. Other effects also include, smoking, alcohol abuse, bullying, early on set sexual activity and obesity.
This brings me to another reason why body image and self-esteem is an important to talk about with adolescent and why parents should care. It is a fact that it changes the way the child things and could end up harming themselves or others. So I say take a stand now and be more active in children lives during these stages.
