“I see nothing, I hear nothing, I know nothing.” This was a common phrase used by a Sergeant in the television show Hogan’s Heroes. This was a comedic series that was set in Germany during World War II, specifically in a Luftwaffe (German Air Force) prisoner-of-war camp. The prisoners at this camp were not like any other prisoners, their mission was to sabotage the German war effort, smuggle escaped prisoners to England, and make their commandant’s life as annoying as possible. Some people believe that the television show Hogan’s Heroes was created to make fun of World War II and to also make the Germans look like a bunch of idiots; however, the true purpose of this show was not to make fun of the Axis powers, or the war, but to show the ingenuity …show more content…
As a result of Colonel Klink and Sergeant Shultz’s stupidity Colonel Robert Hogan and his men were able to carry-out their mission.
The actor who portrayed Colonel Hogan was none other than Bob Crane. In the year 1964, producer Jerry Thorpe lead Bob Crane toward an original series about a prisoner of war camp set in Nazi Germany. At first Crane wasn’t interested in the show. He was wanting a comedy, not a heavy drama about war. He also was not fond of the idea of making fun of the war or the hardships prisoners of war went through.
Since Hogan cared for the veteran’s feelings, he insisted that they be shown the trailer of the series to get the veteran’s feedback. Those who watched the trailer liked it, and thought it was hilarious. They approved of the concept, saying that humor was needed to help them make it through the war. With the acceptance from the veterans, and because he understood the show as a comedy, and he embraced Hogan’s Heroes.
