Have you ever watched this TV commercial for Blueberry Eye? Blueberry Eye is widely known as a supplement for eyes but many people don’t know why it is effective on eyes. We will show the relation between Blueberry Eye and eyes. A main component of Blueberry Eye is extract of billberry which is a kind of buleberry. And this extract contains “anthocyanin”, that is effective on eyes.

First, one of the most attractive effects of anthocyanin is that it promotes resynthesis of rhodopsin. Rhodopusin is a light-sensitive receptor protein found in the retina. Rhodopsin consists of Opsin protein and vitamin A called “Retinal”. When Rhodopusin receives light, cis-Retinal isomerizes to trans-Retinal and trans-retinal comes off from Opsin. This structural change is conveyed as a signal. If Resynthesis of rhodopsin can’t catch up this resolution, we feel eyestrain. Anthocyanin promotes resynthesis of rhodopsin, so it improves our eyestorain.

The signal is amplified. So we can see object more easy at night. Now I explain that mechanism. The light that comes from outside is absorbed by ロドプシン. The signal is amplified()by トランスデューシン and cyclic GMP-PDE and changed to electric signal. アントシアニン activates cGMP-PDE.
Please look at this figure. This date show that cGMP-PDE is activated by three different アントシアニン, when it is added in photoreceptor cell from cow. There are some differences, every アントシアニン has effect that activates cGMP-PDE.

Third reason is that アントシアニン has anti-oxidant action and prevent our eyes from aging.
As we grow older, リボフスチン(It’s age pigment)is stored in retinal pigment epithelium. The pigment easily prodecus radical by low-wavelength light. It is said that radical hurts retina. アントシアニン can prevent リボフスチン from being oxidized. Please look at this
