Beauty, fragrance, low-maintenance, self-seeding and thrives on minimal water. Sounds like the perfect maintenance-free flower that all gardeners want in their landscapes. There are eight of those perfect flowers that will self-seed, grow well in low-water conditions and come back in all their fragrant beauty year after year.

Blue Flax

Blue flax is a short-lived perennial with a unique characteristic - each plant produces a small blue flower for only one day. A grouping of blue flax will produce blooms all season and the plants will self-seed after blooming. Blue flax grows well in most regions, preferring to be planted in full sun and under low-water conditions.

Colorful Cosmos

Fragrant and colorful cosmos makes quite a visual impact with their height and bold colors. Cosmos will produce pine-needle like seeds that will germinate anywhere they come

This herb will start out as a small foliage rosette the first year after being self-seeded, then the herb will produce purple flower spikes in the years to come.

Feverfew

Feverfew is a white flowering, aromatic herb that acts as natural pest repellant. Plant feverfew in a low-water area around outdoor eating areas to help keep insects away. Plant in-between paver cracks or around the outdoor kitchen perimeter so the herb will be stepped on and release it's insect repelling scent.

Larkspur

Larkspur produces purple spikes of flowers on tall, self-seeding plants. The larkspur does self-seed proficiently and will take over an area if not kept in check with regular plant removal. Larkspur is toxic to humans and pets, so bear that in mind when selecting a planting location.

Morning Glory

Morning glory vine will climb on most any vertical surface and produce new flowers each morning and grows best in poor soil with very little water. Allow the flower seeds to dry on the vine and fall to the ground for self-seeding.
