In this paper, I will explain how I perceived the article Gunsmithing Requires Innovation, written by Paul Mazan; American Gunsmith April 2015. In the last 100 years firearms manufacturing, has evolved in leaps and bounds. Like any other industry many manufacturers have come and gone. The issue gunsmiths and hobbyists alike run into is that once a manufacturer has been closed for decades upon decades it can become near impossible to locate replacement parts, or donor guns that match weapons that come into your shop, thus putting you into a situation where you improvise and find a way to make it happen or become the Gunsmith that can’t do the job.…
Throughout civilization’s history there have been a diverse number of weapons designed to inflict physical and psychological harm with the ultimate goal of implementing its use for personal protection or conquest. Consequently as the utilization and acquisition of innovative weapons becomes less complex, the controversial recognition among society associated with innovative weaponry’s unsafety continues to ascend. Such is the case in the United States, the utilization and improper allocation of firearms has gone through intense scrutiny in recent years due to the growing insecurity these firearms supposedly represent for the American public. The documentary Gunned Down-The Power of the N.R.A. conveys a passionate message from two interest groups…

The invention or the rifle let the soldier carry more than one bullet in there gun at a time. It had a range of 1,000 yards and didn’t need reloaded after every shot. In his novel, fist stick knife gun, Geoffrey Canada outlines a short history of the escalating violence in our cities. Taking place particularly in the South Bronx, his recounting of the virtually obligatory acts of violence that he witnessed committed on the streets of New York is truly an eye opener. He provides an earth shattering account of the truthful conditions and causes behind the atrocious acts committed by today's poverty-stricken youth, and offers the well-thought out solutions and opinions of a seasoned professional who has dealt with these issues first-hand. Geoffrey's first encounter with the violence that would soon come to dominate his youth took place during his early childhood years in the South Bronx.…
One of the greatest changes that occurred in the strategy of warfare took place during the 20th century. This was the development and deployment of the airplane. The strategic prowess that airplanes provided during times of war was unprecedented. It was very different than all the other types of weaponry that was used during conflicts, such as ground troops, tanks and ships.…
Historically, armed forces adapt tactics and invent new defensive and offensive equipment as a response to adversaries’ technology. The invention of the airplane illustrates this type of advance. Military forces responded to the airplane’s ability to conduct reconnaissance, bomb targets, attack air and ground targets, and perform sustainment operations by developing air defense technology. In World War I, the United States conducted air defense operations using three-inch anti-aircraft guns.…
The idea of the weapon was that once it made contact, the bullet would flatten out. This would cause bones to break easier. On the edges, there were spiral grooves that went around the bullet, in turn; the barrel of the gun had grooves on it’s inside to make the bullet spin. This made the bullet faster, but more difficult to load. Having gunpowder residue collect inside the barrel made it harder to load the more it was used.…
I remember it like it was yesterday; the multitude of breaking news stories coming through on my phone about a tragedy that would soon start outrage and lead to revolution. On February 14, 2018, 12:18pm in Parkland, Florida a former student, Nickolas Cruz, of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School opened fire on his former school, killing 17 and wounding 17 others. Word finally came around that the weapon used was an AR-15 semi-automatic style assault rifle. Many of us, including myself pondered the idea, how could a 19-year old access an assault rifle of this kind?…
The invention of gunpowder was drastic and life altering discovery. Gunpowder was discovered in Ancient China in the 9th Century during the Han dynasty, by an alchemist named Wei Boyang (A&E). “ By the 20th century, military organizations confronted the problem of not only adapting to technological changes in peace time, but also the fact that war itself has inevitably turned up the speed of technological change”. The first Gulf War constitutes a turning point in the history of modern conflicts essentially because of the integration of technology into all levels of military operations. War was always been a declaration of hostility between two opposing groups clashed over a battlefield in a duel with the ultimate aim to impose its will on the other. However, the advent of new technologies has completely changed these legendary and almost static clashes.…
