The Black Saturday bushfires were a series of fires that ignited across the Australian state of Victoria on 7 February 2009.The Black Saturday Bushfires was a result of diverse conditions including exceptional heat waves in the weeks preceding the bushfires. Due to the heatwaves, hot, dry tropical air over south-eastern Australia was channelled since the heatwaves was blocking high pressure systems over the Tasman Sea, with a combination of an intense tropical cyclone located off the north-west coast of Western Australia and a monsoon trough over in northern Australia, which produced perfect conditions for hot tropical air to be directed down over south eastern Australia.
