On the subject of Black Lives Matter, one question is what makes Black Lives Matter a social movement? This question is raised by Meyer when he writes about a social movement on page(s) 12-50. One possible answer to the question is it bring light to issues of oppression. Another possible answer to the question is Black Lives Matter reveals hidden racism. In this paper, I will argue that Black Lives Matter is an important social movement that brings light to both the issues of oppression, police brutality and the issues of hidden racism.

They are made up of people who are disproportionally represented and are led by someone who is disproportionally advantaged (63). NAACP, for example, is a well connect organization that gets it networks from other organization that operates under it. They have support and solidarity with other organization (62). For a movement to succeed in a society that is against it, network and connection matters because put them in a social and political advantage. Meyer says “social movements trace dynamics trajectories, with activists moving in and out of collective action and with authorities responding in different ways,”(16). The movement started as a hashtag (#BlackLivesMatter) and it became widespread throughout the nation. Trayvon Martin was 17 years African America who went to the convenient store but was wear a hoodie. Zimmerman explains to the police officer that he was acting in self-defense because Trayvon was trying to attack him. Therefore, he shot it in order to protect himself. Zimmerman was not arrested or charged and was set free. In the event of race, Zimmerman’s father Robert Zimmerman expressed that George Zimmerman was not white but Hispanic. Therefore, there the case was not a Black vs White issues. The public was outraged about the verdict of Zimmerman being innocent from such a crime. A rallied was held for the arrest of Zimmerman but authorities did not nothing, and found him innocent of the crime and place him under witness protection
