Abstract. Bipolar college students often have trouble performing consistent in their life because of their immense mood swings and other side effects. Additionally, they also have to deal with an environment full of various unpredictable situations. Emotional stability is often required for college life due to the work overload and intensity. Therefore, you can imagine the difficulties a person with bipolar disorder can face when their daily lives depend on variables that are often changing. Introduction. The journal started off by using many statistical sources –“Bipolar I disorder is present in 2.6% of the population over 18”—to express the frequency of the disorder and the severity of it –“one can expect 1 to 2 cases of first episode mania per year.” To continue building onto the harshness of the disorder the author proceeded to describe how the complexity of a college life can exacerbate or trigger the symptoms.

Psychotherapy and Psychoeducation. With this section of the journal, the author indicates that initial symptoms of the stage shouldn’t be rushed into serious consideration, instead, it should be waited until “more symptoms develop, [then] the provider and student can watch the pattern unfold and react accordingly.” I believe this is the best way to go since observing can help discover more

Instead of listing down what medications are preferred over other, the author suggested how the usage of medications should be for the students. Especially in the beginning, the author acutely identified that the students are often uncertain of the medications at the start and often have trouble devoting to the medicines because of it. The solution to the problem was provided by the author saying that approaches to the medication should be set by a different perspective so as not to make them feel like a burden to the student. On the other hand, for frequent users of medications it was stated that repetitions should be watch out for as side effects can manifest if the amount taken is above a certain
