The modern era advanced the biological science industry with the introduction of biotechnology. The biotech industry allowed the use of technological advancements that assist the use of research. Biotech has also allowed scientist to look at biological topics from a microscopic scale to a nanoscopic scale. One of the biggest innovations is the ability to research single cells. The research of single cells is a topic that is able to be assisted by Fluidgm technology, a biotech company that focuses on developing and manufacturing instruments, kits and reactants for single cell biology and high throughput screening.

Single cell studies revealed different cell types such as blood or bone. Single cell research has also been able to reveal heterogeneity that is distinguished by all cells of a population and their expression of transcription. As a result, the expression data is able to be used in a way in order to estimated likelihoods of the expression of two different genes in the same time in the same cell. However, the result has also been the derivation on how are the cells able to regulate these infections. The scientists use LSP in order to simulate a viral infection and used individual cells that responded at different rates. The scientists hypothesized that the “precocious cells “are the responders that are able to initiate the anti-viral response. The use of the C1 became a vital part of this experiment .The C1 would capture the cells and would stimulate their gene expressions both isolated and a group. After the cells have been analyzed, the cells that didn’t express genes when isolated were expressed in population and those that weren’t expressed in a population were expressed when isolated. The experiments were able to conclude that when the cells were isolated the entire organism wouldn’t respond to the infection and when the cell were in a population the expressed genes were able to respond against the Infection.
