It was not only affecting her mother but also her family. Also in this letter is that her mother blames herself: “My feminist dedication to other women 's health, other women 's bodies through my work, the impossible juggling act of career and family - yet dinner was on the table every night, bedtime stories were lovingly shared - did we miss something here?” (“Anorexia Nervosa”). Even though Jesse’s disorder is not her mother 's fault, her mother still blames herself. Jesse’s note also seems as though she doesn’t want the help from her family. She talks about how she gained weight because she knew she had to but now she hates everything about herself. Although every family is different, Jesse’s life is a testament that living with anorexia can destroy a family from the inside out.
