The causes of climate change are separated into two categories: natural and human-made.
During the early years of civilization, nature causes climate change. For example, in August of 1883 in Indonesia, the volcano Krakatoa erupted which, as stated in Climate Change: In Context, “sent ash 50 mi (80 km) into the atmosphere” (Lerner 98). The volcanos’ eruption caused the atmosphere to become covered in ash, which didn’t allow for sunlight to go through; the global temperature dropped more than two degrees Fahrenheit. Humans causing climate change started in the later 1800s with the start of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution brought the introduction of power-driven machines, factories and the shift of society from rural to urban.
