William “Bill” Clinton, the 42nd president, gave his “I Have Sinned (1998)” speech explaining and asking for forgiveness due to his affair with his secretary Monica Lewinski. Through this speech Clinton demonstrates strong pathos, ethos and logos. Clinton’s main goal was to let the citizens of America and people involved know that he is deeply sorry for his actions. His tone throughout the speech is apologetic because of the content of his speech.
Bill Clinton was born on August 19th, 1946, in the small town of Hope, Arkansas. His father died in a car crash a few months before he was born. Bill’s mother raised him with the help of Bill’s grandparents. From a young age Clinton’s grandparents showed him the importance of committing himself to his education. His mother remarried an abusive alcoholic that lead Clinton to snap. This caused his mother to finally get a divorce. After High School Clinton attended college at multiple universities. For beginning his studies he went to Georgetown, he started getting himself into politics. His freshman and sophomore year he was the president of the school’s government. He soon got offered a Rhode scholarship to study at Oxford University. From there he finally spent his last years of his college education at Yale

On September 11, 1998 the Clinton delivered his speech at the annual White House Prayer Breakfast, to an audience of 100 priests, ministers and other religious leaders. Clinton’s wife Hillary was also present in the audience to hear his speech. The president chose to do the speech after finding out Kenneth Starr’s evidence had the abilities to get him impeached on multiple wrongful actions . It was a handwritten speech where he not only apologized to the trouble he caused, but also spoke about his attempted apology speech that was given on August 17, 1998.
