It was the first party I had been invited to since I left home. The party was on the other side of Columbia, in the Brookside apartments. My friend Miranda drove us to the party, but she decided she was not going to stay. When we got off the car and began approaching the apartment, I could feel the bass of the music before I had reached the door. As soon as the door opened, there were people being pushed out the door. They were not being kicked out, but there so many people inside we had to push out way through the door. I felt like a sardine being packed in a can, and much to my despair the lights were turned off as well, there were only club flashing lights. The party was in honor of a girl who had just turned 21, so obviously there was alcohol, however, it was not the only thing that was abundant in the room. By the time I reached the table with drinks, there were none. “Great!” I thought, “What kind of party runs out of drinks?” I was disappointed to say the least but I was already here and my ride had left, so I decided to make the most of the situation. Music was blaring, and the DJ was doing a descent job. I decided to dance, or at least attempted to, I am not the type of person that likes to grind, and in a party with very limited space that was all anyone could do, so I gave up.
I found my friends, but it was more like I rescued them. There was a guy who kept asking for Gloria’s name and number and would not let her walk away, so I grabbed her by the hand and somehow managed to pull her out of his reach. We were just about to leave the party, when a girl in front of me almost burned a girl next to her when she was trying to pass a weed blunt. “Excuse me! Watch where you’re going!” she said, “I almost burned you!” The girl then spun around, and I could see her pissed off face through the smoke, and said “What the hell did you say?” It was go time, I needed to get out of there
