With the modern manufacturing system functioning like a military organization, wealthy men flaunting their riches around, and department stores tempting shoppers the economy of the united states was slowly falling into a economic state of emergency. In the political cartoon image by Joseph Keppler, it depicts a large number of big businesses as large white men who look like they could easily sit on the senate and smush them all, that's kind of how it was at the time. If a big business didn’t like what choice the senate was going to make, they would pressure them into it by bribe and threaten to shut down their bountiful corporations.
