This first week for Biblical Survey has been interesting and insightful, lectures that were provided were sufficed. In Genesis 1, the story of creation, and how God created this world darkness with order gave this world structure, the lecture provided clarity to my previous teachings. The transition from the story of creation to the examples and stories about God’s order flowed efficiently.
The materials that I read this week in comparison to my previous teachings are quite different, to say the least. The lectures provide depth with the subject; my previous teachings are not as deep as the lectures are. I appreciate the explanations that are provided, versus not explaining or examining a scripture. This week’s lectures made the Bible text

According to the text “Suppose you are likely to misread the Bible as to properly read it, due to ignorance of the original languages and of the historical, literacy, social, and rhetorical contexts of the Bible that are so different from our modern contexts? (Witherington, 2014, p.4) A lightbulb went off for me, in regards to not reading the Bible correctly. The material also helps me to understand what I’m reading, furthermore, the materials simplify the text. I am pleased to know that the Bible is an interpretation, so when I read it is also an interpretation also, which could sound confusing but however, it has helped my comprehension. The story of creation has a different affect on me now, due there being more depth and explanation to the story. This story made me realize how much we “people” need order, God defeated chaos with order, I look at my current way of living and realize how I have benefited from God’s order.
What I gather from the lectures is that everything began with God’s order. This is my perspective, but this is how I see it. The order of God is displayed in many books throughout the Bible, and without order chaos will be free. When God cleansed the Earth for the first time he was displeased with his creations except for Noah and his family, God’s creations lived without his order and let chaos into the

The Gospels of The New Oxford Annotated Bible aim to tell of the life of Jesus Christ. The authors build the narratives around the Father-Son relationship of God and Jesus because of how much of an impact God’s sacrifice has on Jesus’ ministry. “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (John 3:16). Throughout the book of John, Jesus repeatedly says that he is the Son of God, the Son of Man, and God. If Jesus is both the Son of God and God, then it follows that God himself is the Son of Man as well.…

One of my greatest achievements was coming second in a state competition with my church. Usually people would not consider this as a memorable achievement, but for me it is. Every two years churches across New York come together to compete in categories such as art, music, drama, or liturgical dancing. My church would generally excel in each category that we would participate in, yet we always finish in last place in the bible quizzing category. This category is the Christian version of jeopardy; each group is required to memorize various verses from the bible.…
