According to the Best Interest Standard factors that are taken into account are the wishes of the child, wishes of both parents, relationship status of the child with parents, and care giving, adjustment to school and community, access to interaction with relatives, relationship with other household members, mental and physical health of the parents, parental use of discipline and emotional abuse, substance abuse, and sexual abuse. A child that is of appropriate age that can justify their selection of custodial parent is taken into consideration with all other best interest factors. Standards may also vary according to state. In the state of Georgia, Best Interest Standards are bases on wat will promote the child’s happiness and best welfare. Georgia Section Code 19-9-3 list 17 factors that are considered when making a decision of child custody, which add love and affection toward parents, and love and affection toward siblings.
