Beowulf Pros And Cons

Improved Essays
Uh, whoever is flagging these post's are being over dramatic because it's not that deep in my opinion but okay.

As far as killing Saxon goes originally I didn't kill him. Then I met Sage and I was like "Hold on, let me rewind real quick."

Anyways, at first I didn't kill him because...

1. He was already down.
2. He wanted me to kill him and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction.
3. I don't think he would have actually killed me because that whole situation was a test. Which was proven true if you didn't kill him.

Also, if this were reality I still wouldn't kill him. But I'd make sure his ass wouldn't come after me again. I would just incapacitate him and he wouldn't be a problem anymore. Unless whoever is controlling him can regrow

Beowulf Dichotomized Former delegate Joseph Bartlett of Maryland, once said “When a pagan race comes in contact with a Christian race, they are converted, absorbed, or exterminated”. The dichotomy between paganism and Christianity can be seen from the Anglo-Saxon era to the early 2000’s. The clashing of the two can be seen within the epic poem Beowulf. Within the epic, the elements of Norse paganism and medieval Christianity are present. However the medieval Christianity overshadows the underlying pagan tones in which the epic as originally spoken.…

    Flaws In Beowulf

Deciding on whether Beowulf is flawed or is fundamentally good is a decision that has many possible answers, and mostly is not able to be decided fully upon. I believe Beowulf may have begun fighting as a reason to do good, but once he realized how much praise and fortune he would receive from the fights, he began to risk himself time and time again simply for the glory. It seems he may be blinded from this truth, however, since he believes himself to be the only hope of winning, specifically when he mentions, “he had no call / to go looking for some lesser champion,” when discussing Grendel’s attack and king Hygelac (2493-2495). It seems, also, as time progresses he becomes even more sure of himself. Looking at the speech he makes before fighting the dragon, Beowulf…

    Tragic Flaws Of Beowulf

The Old English epic poem “Beowulf,” written by an unknown Anglo-Saxon poet, narratres the valiant journey of a young Geatish hero named Beowulf who travels to the land of the Danes to save them from the lurid demon, Grendel. Though Beowulf’s character epitomizes the Anglo-Saxon epic hero, Beowulf also possesses three major flaws that distract modern readers from his ultimate heroism. Beowulf’s first flaw, conceitedness, is apparent in the boasts he makes upon his arrival at Herot. Though it is obvious that the Geat is a talented and mighty warrior, his actions, not his continual gloats, should illuminate his skills and brilliance. Additionally, Beowulf’s energetic and competitive nature stimulates his need for action, often causing unpleasant situations.…

In the film for example, King Hrothgar commits suicide, there is no evidence in the text supporting this. The film implies that Beowulf takes interest in the queen, while in the text there is no evidence of any romantic interest among them. This line from the film shows Beowulf’s interest, “Me It's not me he wants, my queen” (Memorable Quotes for Beowulf (2007))? The film states that Beowulf not only had an affair with Grendel’s Mother but also had a child with her. In the movie Beowulf marries the queen after Hrothgar’s death and eventually cheats on her similar to how Hrothgar did.…

    Why Beowulf Is Important

Despite his efforts, Yeager provides insufficient reasons as to why Beowulf is important. For a document to be read and studied by thousands of people, it has to contain a lot of value, something that Beowulf does not seem to have. As pointed out, it is surprising that the document still exists; however, that still does not deem it important. If the means of writing the oral tradition into a story is unknown, how can one trust that the story contains an accurate representation of the time period it describes? The material that everyone believes to be from humans of the time could be all made up by the scribes that preserved the text.…

For as long as time itself we have had one major problem, our own choices. Our actions are always thought of what we should do, and what we actually do. The question that always presides in most people’s minds is what really should we do? Should our actions be dictated from a religious standpoint?
