Benjamin Franklin's Experiments

In Ben Franklin's experiments in search of static electricity, he found success (to an extent). In his first experiment, he made two people stand on wax and another person stand on the regular floor. One rubbed the tube and the other was drawing the fire. They appeared, to the person standing on the floor, to be electrised and he will perceive a spark. On his second experiment, he did the same as the first, except, they touched one another during the excitement of the tube, which resulted in no sighting of electricity. During his third attempt, he noticed that after touching one another after the exciting of the tube, there was a stronger spark between them than there was to either of them and the person on the floor. There is another person who affected and shaped Philadelphia in 18the century, whose name is Benjamin Franklin, the founding father of the United States. If say William Penn determined the childhood of Philadelphia, then Benjamin Franklin is the one who witnesses the teenagerhood of Philadelphia, and saw it grew up to an attractive city. When Benjamin moved to Philadelphia from Boston in 1723, Philadelphia has already been a growing city but without many public services. He found the first voluntary association for firefighting in the United States, the Union Fire Company, and the first insurance company to protect people’s home. He also worked with James Logan, the city governor at that time who collected over 3000 books, and built public…

Benjamin Franklin is generally credited with the invention of bifocals. Historians found evidence to suggest that others may have come before him in the invention. however, a correspondence between George Whatley and John Fenno, editor of The Gazette of the United States, suggested that Franklin had indeed invented bifocals, and perhaps 50 years earlier than had been originally thought. Since many inventions are developed independently by more than one person, it is possible that the invention of bifocals may have been such a case. Nonetheless, Benjamin Franklin was among the first to wear bifocal lenses, and Franklin's letters of correspondence suggest that he invented them independently, regardless of whether he was the first to invent them.…

"The Great American Experiment", a phrase that implies that America is some sort of trial run of multicultural republicanism, often finds itself lodged between the margins of editorials that attempt to define America. The issue with that phrase is not what it implies about the experimental aspect of America; rather, it is the way in which it ignores the fact that there are many generations who have and will live in the middle of the experiment. Those people have not and will not live long enough to view this country outside of the immediate. To them, America is the place where their children took their first steps, or where they held their grandfather's hand as he exhaled his final breath, not a long-term social experiment. To those living inside the American experiment, America is something that can be felt, not seen.…
