To continue on, the amount of money to be able to survive in the world is not cheap, there are many things to pay for. According to the research report, “Improving Foster Care,” the cost for living out of the system is much more expensive. It says, “The rising costs of child rearing, the more difficult kids in foster care, low reimbursement rates, and inadequate support for foster parents,” (Spiegel, 1998). This demonstrates how clearly kids are very expensive. Kids have a lot of needs, but with the amount of money foster systems, or foster homes receive, the needs of the kid(s) are not always completely met. There needs to be a change, it is getting harder for others to maintain kids, people are always leaving kids in orphanages, parents die, more and more kids are going into the system each year. The average kid cost around $13000, they need the right nutrients, a bed, clothes, shoes, entertainment, education, medication, etc. Also, a handful of kids need special things, maybe medication, physiatrist, special food, a special environment, and a different education. All kids need something different, and they need the right stuff to grow up healthy and strong. Furthermore, living in the system is also very expensive, and not everyone is willing to take in a kid that is not …show more content…
Group settings are about seven to 10 times more expensive per child than placement with a family,” (Dupere, 2016). This illustrates how the cost of living in a group in the system is so much money. Only a few can live there, not giving many opportunities for foster kids. Some would think why live there and not somewhere else. For foster kids that can be difficult. You don’t leave the system until you’re 18-21, and most people don’t want to adopt or have another kid in the house so willingly. Especially when adopting it takes time, and money and people sometimes don’t have either of those. The system uses the money to have a place for older foster kids, and has some of their necessities. Maybe the money could be used for better things, but the house is for those who actually need it, who are older and low chance of adoption. The money is carefully used and sometimes there just isn’t enough for everyone. Not everyone in the system will have a great experience or an equal one as others. The systems have a significant number of kids to care of, and of all ages. Kids eat three times a day, they need an abundance of supplies for everyone. But with the money they receive they are also missing an abundance of things, they need the money to help these kids who have suffered so much
