I truly believe that trade schools or some call them vocational schools are vital for positively influencing students particularly in the Alaskan villages. Believe it or not there are villages that do not have broad band availability let alone dial up capability to support cell phones, laptops or computers. This leaves the Alaskan native population void in those areas without educational opportunities. However school districts like Galena City or Mt. Edgecomb in Sitka offer vocational educational programs to educate these students in villages or remote areas who want marketable skills yet do not seek a college degree. These schools offer a variety of training in areas like mechanics, aviation, welding, cosmetology, and culinary arts. The value of someone having the ability to fix a boat motor that has left the fishermen stranded in the middle of the Bering Straits is profound because for the fisherman it could mean life or death. As is the aviation mechanic field paramount to a state that has “16 times as many aircraft’s per capital compared to the rest of the United States” (“Flying in Alaska”. (n.d.) . “Aviation touches all aspect of life in Alaska and is the basic mode of transportation because approximately 90% of Alaska is not served by roads (“Flying in Alaska”. n.d.) So what better way to influence an Alaska native life than to give them the skills and abilities that enable them to make an impact in their life, village, and state. All this is accomplished by the innovation of trade schools in the
