When Jess had to miss her tournament final for her sister’s wedding, she was devastated. Eventually her father noticed how much the sport meant to her, because of how disappointed she was, and let her go. Her father couldn’t let Jess have any regrets that he had growing up, and finally understood what she wanted for herself. Since Jess finally had someone on her side she was able to gain the strength to tell her whole family what she wanted. Throughout the movie, Jess is always having to please her family and what they want for her. By the end of the movie, Jess has the opportunity to go to America for a soccer scholarship. She knows that her parents are not fans of her playing soccer. However, since her father had already accepted the fact she plays the sport, she was willing to tell her whole family that she was going to college to pursue soccer too. She confronts her parents by stating, “if I can’t tell you what i want now, then I’ll never be happy, whatever I do.” By telling her family what she wanted basically established how she knew she could work out her colliding cultures, and could make them work together.
