Sandy Hill is a neighborhood that is well-known for its diverse culture and infrastructure, and it is located in Ottawa, Ontario, bordered by the Rideau Canal to the West, the Rideau River to the East, the Rideau Street to the North, and the Queensway to the South. Nowadays, the neighborhood is populated with students and diplomats because of the academic institutes in the vicinity, and one of those schools is called the University of Ottawa. Some of the neighborhood’s notable landmarks include the residence of the previous Prime Ministers, Laurier House and the house of WW1 ace Billy Bishop. Sandy Hill got its name from the altitude of the ground in comparison to the terrain due to the sandiness of the soil and its hilliness, making it difficult to construct tall edifices. Even though Sandy Hill is a developed neighborhood, in terms of diversity and financially, the area still has a long way to go by establishing a better environment for the citizens.…

I can recall it being around Christmas and seeing her face all over the television. Hearing her name come out of everyone’s mouth. On the Eastern Shore, crime and violence make up the daily life. A local devastating murder of Sarah Foxwell took the whole Eastern Shore by surprise because she was so young, she was only in the sixth grade when she was tragically raped and murdered by a familiar face in her family, Thomas Leggs. There was more to Sarah’s life than just being a victim of kidnaping and murder.…

She opposed alcohol throughout her life.…

The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated.…
