Behavior analysis often uses behavioral chaining as a common intervention with individuals with developmental delays. Therapist must create and validate a task analysis after their initial functional behavior assessment is conducted. This allows them to determine what type of behavior chaining will be used. Behavior analyst use evidence-based practices in the integration of best research evidence (Walker, 2007).
Task Analysis
Behavior analyses have to create and confirm task analysis of the factors of the behavior sequence, and evaluate the mastery level of the client among every behavior during the task analysis. Task analysis requires breaking a difficult skill into smaller, teachable units. The skills are taught in sequential steps. When developing a task analysis it needs to developed especially for the individual it is designed for. Furthermore, the client’s age, cognitive level, prior knowledge of the task, and their skill level needs to be considered (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007). In order to classify and corroborate the components …show more content…
There are several different types of behavior chaining that can be used such as forward chaining, total-task training, backward chaining, and backward chaining with leap ahead modifications. Forward chaining links the behavior in order from first behavior to the last behavior is completed. The behavior analyst teaches the behaviors identified in the task analysis in logical order. When the client reaches criterion level with the first behavior reinforcement is delivered. Furthermore, reinforcement is delivered when the first step and second step of criterion is completed. Additionally, once the sequence order of step one, step two, and step three of criterion is complete reinforcement is given. The sequence continues for all the subsequent steps in the accurate order (Cooper et al.,
