I am applying for the ………………. program at the …… University to achieve my long-held dream of becoming a nurse.

My interest in and passion for nursing goes back to my early childhood, where I grew up seeing and being influenced by the pride and satisfaction of my sisters with their profession as nurses, and their unrelenting dedication to helping their patients in all the possible ways they could. I owe a great deal to the influence of my sisters, my compassionate and empathetic personality, and my desire to help others in time of their need, and more specifically, my keen desire to become a nurse.

As part of the efforts I have made to realizing my ambition, in Eritrea, I took a first aid course when I was in high school. I also did voluntary work at a care home in my area, helping with activities and assisting care assistants with feeding and washing. This was a very satisfying and an eye-opening experience, because it made me appreciate the demanding nature of the job and the areas I needed to improve on, both at the emotional and intellectual levels.

Regrettably, in Eritrea, where I come from, educational opportunities are limited by social restrictions that curtails educationally ambitious women, as well as by the government policy of summary assignment of

Admission to the ....... program will help me realize an ambition I have carried with me since my childhood but could not achieve because of the many practical impediments I have had to overcome. For me, even the opportunity to apply to become a nurse is something I value greatly and cannot take for granted. If I am fortunate enough to be admitted, I will work diligently to succeed in the program and beyond into becoming the competent and compassionate nurse I have always dreamt of
