Although the movie is not based on a specific event, civils war like the one depicted in the movie happen very often within Africa. The tribal and political war in Liberia led to the war between Sierra Leone and Liberia. The Liberians had their own conflicts within their country and were at war with each other. However, funding a war can be very expensive and Liberia desperately needed resources. Liberians decided to invade the country of Sierra Leone which is known for its abundance of diamonds. This invasion led to the war between Sierra Leone and Liberia.
After researching other wars in addition to Civil War of Sierra Leone (1991-2002), I noticed that the movie “Beasts of No Nation” was almost a visual of the war and other wars that happened in Africa. The movie purposely does not name the particular place in which the war took place because invasions like this happened all throughout Africa. A current example is the Boko Haram incidents going on in Nigeria today.
