In the video, Linda Hammond, stated students, “…need opportunities that are well-structured to allow them to learn those skills and to try different aspects of it.” This was very accurate. Data collected from the formative assessment showed several areas that students did not have critical background knowledge. Students need opportunities in which they will be able to practice the skills they are lacking. Warm up class activities will focus on the skills students are lacking on a daily basis maximizing student learning opportunities.…
Wikipedia informs researchers, amateurs or not, of whatever it is they may be inquiring about by using countless genius minds who put a collective effort in including what is in their scope of knowledge to whatever topic may be at hand. However, crowdsourcing is not just prevalent in the digital world. It can also be found in the smallest of towns, specifically in the technique of teaching used by Davidson’s own mother-in-law, Mrs. Davidson. By using games to aid her students in further understanding the lessons she taught previously, Mrs. Davidson uses a form of entertainment to retain the attention of her students in order to promote learning. Her use of games caters to the way she knows students want to keep learning: through acquiring and retaining attention.…
During the summer, I taught reading, math, and science to a small 3rd grade class. It was up to me to determine the right method of teaching based off a teaching plan that was provided. I knew that lecturing 3rd graders for 2.5 hours would not help me to get my message across. Therefore, I decided to create fun, educational games that the children can play while still learning the material. Not only did I excite them by allowing them to play games as a team, I was able to see how they communicated with each other.…
“What you do on the first days of school will determine your success or failure for the rest of the school year. You will either win or lose your class on the first days of school”. (Wong 1). When planning for the first day of school, it will be important to win my class over immediately, like Harry Wong discusses in his article. In order to win your class over, time preparing is essential for the first day of class.…
Erin’s Selections (27) Sterling Silverware (13 - Erin) The Sterling Silverware belonged to and was cherished by your maternal grandmother, Jean Florey (Brown). In the late 1940s, as a young single woman she worked in a jewelry store and purchased the sterling silverware piecemeal with portions of each paycheck. As with most women of that era, Jean looked forward to marriage and being a housewife.…
This American Flag lesson plan was really cute, but to be a fully functional lesson plan I feel somethings need to be implemented. This lesson plan would be day three or four of a unit based around Flag Day. This would allow me as a teacher to ensure that my students have the background knowledge need to know what the original 13 colonies are, why we broke off from England, what our flag represents and how it has become what it is today. I would start off the unit reading the entire book “Why Are There Stripes on the American Flag?” each day I would return to the book focusing on the section that has to do with the lesson of the day.…
Walking into Kekionga Middle School I noticed a lot of differences from schools that I had visited previously. The most visible one being the school’s population and location. I had never observed at an urban school and have never felt such a cultural difference between me and the students. With a school population that was so diverse and not within the same background as I was, I immediately started thinking about my future teaching career and what I would do in that kind of atmosphere. I later on asked Mrs. Parker why she chose this school and said that it was because she went to Fort Wayne Community Schools all of her life, so she did not feel change at all.…
As a traveling teacher librarian I definitely want my students to look forward to their time with me. I am only in their classes every six weeks, for one or two lessons, so engagement is a big part of my planning. I spend time trying to get to know them through surveying their reading habits and classroom discussion. Additionally I have done different “icebreaker” activities so that I can get to know them and they can get to know me. They love playing 2 truths and a lie.…
For my book review I chose to read the book “Teach Like a Pirate” by Dave Burgess. This book was published by Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc. in San Diego, California in September of 2012. Teach Like a Pirate is divided into three parts, is 176 pages long and is an education/curriculum book. Dave Burgess’s intent of this book is to help teachers become wildly engaging in the classroom and more fulfilled in their profession. It is written for teachers of all subjects and at all grade levels, and this book explains how you can generate a new passion for teaching and discover new depths of creativity, in order to produce lesson plans that captivate and “hook” your students.…
One male child kept to himself most of the time. I found out later that he was new to the toddler room from the infant area. He was still adjusting. The ratio of teacher to child is 1 to 4.…
Another teaching lesson I found was how Little would use the break in between the semesters to go over what they had studied in the past few months. This is a very good teaching method because sometimes some students might need to refresh their mind on what they previously learned especially since students learn so much in just one semester. 2) Olivia was a very hard working student and was attached to school because she saw it like a refuge from her own home. At home she would get constant beatings from her mother until she finally got tired of it and left. The only motivation she really had were the complements she would receive from her teachers.…
My Professional Philosophy Statement My personal belief, in regards to teaching early childhood education has three primary components. First of all, I believe it begins with creating a safe and caring atmosphere for young children to learn. Secondly, as an early childhood educator I also place a value on teaching a child developmentally appropriate practices. Finally, making an effort to teach about a child’s family culture, values, beliefs, or expectations assists me to make their experience meaningful through family involvement.…
Gem of the Ocean is a part of a ten play chronicle written by August Wilson where slavery has ended but, we can still see that it still exist. Gem of the Ocean takes place about 40 years after the abolition of slavery, which is not nearly enough time for people to move on and evolve from such a detrimental occurrence in history. Slavery is a manmade problem the promoted racism and was passed on through the generations. Racism and ignorance created this fear among the races and a selfish sense of only caring for one’s own race. Even though it has been years from the time the play takes place this Nation still experience some of the same issues it did at that time.…
During the game, one teacher explained the rules and the other offered other strategic insight to get the students thinking. The teachers reminded students of the objectives they…
The games were not meant to be competitive, but simply there to help the students with thing such as counting. She had the students roll a dice and write down the number they rolled. After, they had to continue counting on from the number they rolled. My mentor teacher’s lessons presented information to various types of learners. One teaching method…
