Where if they do not feel like they fit in, they can go into their online game and feel more welcomed. Now with gaming, "in today's society, consistently fulfill genuine human needs that the real world fails to satisfy. More than that, they may prove to be a key resource for solving some of our most pressing real-world problems" (McGonigal 220). With video games the key points of the games are usually to solve a puzzle or get an achievement. If someone who games feels like they do not have the satisfaction in their real life, they can then go to playing video games to get the feeling of success. With this, gamers are seen to achieve a sense of belonging in the game with people they do not know, therefore; they seek the social aspects in the games instead of real life. In addition, gamers are searching for social embeddedness, as they lack any fulfilling social environment in real life. These gamers focus on online groups, and much of their real-life social circle is replaced by gaming-related relationships. (Domahidi, Quandt 1165)
Gamers have poor social skills for real life connections or relationships. This pushes them away from being able to connect with people without the use of games or technology. Since many games are all now multiplayer, people take that as social interaction. Talking into a microphone to another player on the other side of country or world is not social interaction.
